Last year,
Scott grew Waltham butternut
squash, some turnips and cabbage
in the 10 acre field. Most
of these vegetables were donated
to various charities through
the Boston
Area Farm Gleaning Project whose
crews harvested the crops and
delivered them to the Salvation
Army food pantry and meal program
in Waltham, the Red Cross Food
Pantry and the Sandra's Lodge
shelter in Waltham, and
to food pantries in Cambridge.
Crews picked approximately
10 boxes of green beans, 12
boxes of cabbage, 6 boxes of
turnips, about 12 boxes
of sugar pumpkins and 54 boxes
of butternut squash, with the
squash boxes at 50 to 60 pounds,
well over two tons of produce
to those in need. In September
and October, crews picked 6
boxes of beans, 15 boxes of
collard greens and 5 boxes
of mustard greens from the
raised-bed gardens.
