Jane Austen Tours at Gore Place

(WALTHAM, MA) On May 16 & 17, Gore Place, the historic Governor Gore estate, will  offer 6 "Jane Austen" tours of the 1806 Gore mansion. During this popular event, a guide in period costume will use the famous author's own words to describe the decor of the mansion and the gracious lifestyle of the Gores. Past events have soldout. reservations are strongly suggested.

Born in 1775, Jane Austen, author of Emma , Pride and Prejudice and Sense, Sensibility,lived her entire life in England until her death in 1817. Christopher and Rebecca Gore lived in England from 1796 to 1804. The grand mansion they built in Waltham, Massachusetts in 1806 features both French and English influence in the design and greatly resembles the manor houses described in Austen's novels.

Admission to the evening tour on Friday, May 16 at 7pm is $12 adults and $8 for children 5 to 12. The daytime tours will be offered Saturday, May 17 on the hour from 11am to 3pm. Admission for  the daytime tours are $10 adults and $5 children 5-12.

The English tradition of afternoon tea plays an important part in Austen's novels. Why not add a traditional tea to your visit? After your tour, bring your ticket to the Tea Leaf tearoom located nearby at 487 Moody Street in Waltham. You will receive a 10% savings on the traditional three-course afternoon tea service (reservations required). Ticket valid for afternoon tea through June 15, 2008. Seating is limited. Advanced reservations required.
