Take A Walk at Gore Place (WALTHAM, MA) Now through June 30, the outdoor family adventure "Take A Walk" offers spring-related activities for children ages 3 to 9. This outdoor activity offers families the opportunity to explore the 45-acre grounds at Gore Place in Waltham. With the aid of an “activities backpack”, children ages 3-9 and their accompanying adults explore the 45-acre grounds and visit the llama, sheep, goats, and chickens on the farm. Each borrowed backpack contains binoculars, a magnifying glass, and age-appropriate activities. “Take a Walk” is available Monday through Friday, 10am to 3pm and Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 3pm. One hour rental is $5 per backpack. Parking is free. Group arrangements may be made for school groups, pre-schools, home-schools, and day-care providers. The estate includes a small farm with sheep, goats and poultry. The elegantly furnished mansion has been called “the Monticello of the North” and architectural historians consider it to be the most significant Federal period mansion in New England. The grounds are available free of charge daily dawn to dusk. Parking is free. Gore Place is located at 52 Gore Street, just off Route 20 (Main Street) near the Waltham/Watertown line. By public transportation: Take the Red Line to Central Square. Take the 70 or 70A bus toward Waltham. Gore Street is 1-1/4 miles West of Watertown Square.
